Between the 8th of June and the 2nd of July, I spent more than 3 weeks in Santorini to train at depth. It has become a
tradition for me since 2008 to spend some time in Greece at the beginning of the summer. After 2 years in Crete, 1 year in Kalamata, Stavros Kastrinakis, the organiser decided to organise the
trip in the touristic island of Santorini.
During 24 days, despite very hard conditions (strong wind), I did some nice deep dives in the 3 disciplines (Constant
weight with fin, constant weight no fins and free immersion) as main goal the adaptation to the depth. The target of this year is the world championship organised in Kalamata (Greece) between the
15th and the 25th of September).

In April, Julie and I were on a very interesting project: A fashion "Haute Couture" photo shooting with
Franck Seguin and the french Sport and Fashion magazine: l'Equipe "Sport et Style"
We spent 3 days working in the water of in Sharm el Sheikh, at the Four Seasons Hotel, with all the crew: the
artistic director, the journalist, the photographer Franck Seguin, the Stylist June Nakamoto and her assistant, Julie and me.

Welcome back to my blog ! Sorry for the lack of updates the last 2 months, but I am
now back for a report of my winter activity.
Right after the World Championships in Bahamas and a wonderful week (between the 12th and the 18th of December) in La
Plagne ski station for the annual sport event « Les Etoiles du Sport », gathering all the French sports stars of the year, I have traveled to a very exotic place : New Calédonia. The
tropical French island is floating in the middle of the South Pacific, very near to Australia and New Zeland.
I spent almost 3 months there with Julie. Julie has worked on an aquaculture project and I have been invited to share my
passion and experience of freediving with the New Caledonian people and to start my preparation for the next team World Championship in Okinawa in July 2010.
One part of the trip took place in Nouméa, the main city of the Island. Eric Clua and Bernard Andréani, director of the
APNEA freediving club of Nouméa introduced me to the 200 members. I organised some training sessions in the wonderful outdoor 50m swimming pool and some courses in the beautiful water of the
biggest lagoon in the world. I managed to train too with the CNC, Caledonian swimming club almost every day. I also took part in 2 freediving competitions organised by the APNEA club and improved
my personal best in dynamic with a 167m dive.
I have been invited too to become the ambassador of a new freediving club based in Koutio, around
Nouméa.
The other part of the trip was organised by Alphonse Pujapujane. It took part in the Loyalties Islands and was 100%
dedicated to the ocean. I was travelling and teaching in the 3 islands of the Loyalties : Mare, Lifou and Ouvéa. The habitants of the island are mostly Melanesian people with a completely
different social organisation than ours : the tribal organisation. The Loyalties Islands are one the most beautiful places I have ever been so far. But on top of it, the experience with the local
people was unique. Kanak people are very close to nature and the ocean in their way of life and together we had an amazing time.

Bonjour à tous,
du 4 au 15 février, j'ai rejoins les eaux chaude de la Thailande (Koh Lanta) pour la deuxième édition de l'Andaman Aida
Freediving Challenge 2009. Cette compétition organisée par Laurent Pinci, responsable de la structure Blue Planet Diver, a été une fois de plus une grande réussite. 15 participants composés de
novices et d'apneistes aguéris se sont retrouvés pour 2 jours d'entrainements officiels et de jours de compétitions. Pour ma part, j'ai participé à la compétition, mais ne figure pas dans le
classement final. En effet, je suis venu ici principalement pour m'entrainer, profiter de l'eau chaude et aider Laurent à l'organisation et à la médiatisation de l'évènement.
Coté sportif, je suis extremement satisfait de ma plongée en poids constant sans palme à 50m de profondeur, réalisée avec
facilité et un plaisir énorme, malgré le courant! Il faut dire que glisser dans une eau à 29 degrès ne peut que difficilement décevoir!
Ce petit passage dans les eaux tropicales m'a regonfflé d'une énergie puissante, d'une envie débordante de plonger après
une petite phase de recul avec l'élément liquide.
C'est une leçon à retenir pour le futur: quand la lassitude s'installe, mieux vaut prendre un peu de distance,
retrouver du plaisir dans d'autres activités, laisser le manque s'installer et profiter de la bonne occasion pour rallumer la flamme.
Le plaisir a toujours été le moteur principal de ma progression. Son absence entraine stagnation et regression. Je suis
maintenant paré d'une motivation à toute épreuve pour cette année 2009!
Merci la Thailande, merci Laurent, et merci à tous les compétiteurs pour les beaux moments partagés avec vous le long du
cable, sur le bateau et le long des tombants!
Que l'ambiance des compétitions d'apnée soient toujours comme cela!

Hello everyone,
from the 4th to the 15th of february, I went to dive in the clear warm blue water of Thailand ans to join the 2nd edition
of the Andaman Aida Freediving Challenge 2009. This competition organised by Laurent Pinci, responsible of Blue Planet Diver, was a great succes one more time. 15 competitors, with beginners and
confirmed freedivers, dove together during the 2 training days and the 2 competition days. I took part to the competition but I don't appear in the final ranking. Indeed I went in Koh Lanta
mostly to train, enjoy the warm water and to help Laurent with organisation and promotion of the event.
Regarding the competition part, I am more than happy with my Constant No Fins dive at 50m done easily and a huge pleasure
despite the strong current. I have to admit that gliding along the rope in a 29 degres water can't disappoint!
This short stay under the tropics gave me a lot of good vibes, a strong desire to dive again after a water stand
back period. This is a lesson I have learned with this experience: when you face a weariness period, the best choice is to stand back, find again pleasure in other activities, missing freediving
again and start again with passion.
Pleasure has always been the main part of my philosophy. A lack of pleasure always lead to stagnation and regression. I
am now full of motivation for 2009!

the boat and along the reef!
May the atmosphere of freediving competitions always be like that!

Samedi 3 et Dimanche 4 janvier 2009:
Pour commencer la nouvelle année 2009, nous avons vécu un extraordinaire week end à la station Orcières 1850 dans les Hautes Alpes: l'aventure de la plongée sous glace !
Une grande équipe était présente pour participer à cette aventure:
- Le CIPA, représenté par Chris, Fouad, Julie et moi meme.
- Poisson-Lune Production chargé des vidéos et photos sous marine: Jérome Espla - Mikko Paillot
- Sebastien Boue pour les photos terrestres
- France 3 avec 2 journalistes
- Le centre Oser Plonger représenté par Rodolphe qui assurait la logistique de la plongée
- l'Office du Tourisme d'Orcières représenté par Olivier
A peine arrivés sur place samedi en milieu de journée et c'est parti pour un entrainement ski de fond au coeur de l'exceptionnel domaine d'Orcières Merlette au milieu des sapins sur les bords du
Drac. La journée se termine à l'office du tourisme par la projection de "Voyage à 109m" suivi d'une conférence débat avec le public de la station venu assez nombreux se rechauffer dans la salle de
projection (-10 degrès dehors!!).
Nous partons le dimanche matin en ski pour rejoindre le lac Long à 2500m pour la plongée tant attendue. Pour Julie, Fouad et Chris, c'est une première. Nous nous mettons chacun notre tour à l'eau.
Quel spectacle extraordianaire!!
3 trous percés dans la glace nous permettent de respirer et permettent aux rayons de soleil d'illuminer le fond du lac tapissés d'une algue rare. Les jeux de lumière et de couleurs sont
indescriptibles, c'est vraiment une expérience à vivre. Nous sortons apres plus de 45 minutes de balade, les mains et les pieds congelés. Au niveau du corps, aucun de nous n'a eu vraiment
froid.
Nous repartons pour une après midi de ski des images pleins la tete.
Pour l'anecdote, Chris rentrera sur Nice avec sa femme comme il est venu, en voiture sans permis: Il a mis 8h pour monter de Nice et 7h pour rentrer! QUEL EXPLOIT!
Un grand merci à la Station d'Orcières pour cet accueil merveilleux et à Oser Plonger pour de si belles sensations.
Saturday 3th and Sunday 4th of january 2009.
To start 2009, we have organised an incredible week end at Orcières 1850, a skii station in the French Alps: An under
ice diving session.
We were a big team to take part of the adventure:
- CIPA team: Fouad, Chris, Julie and me
- Poisson-Lune Productions (underwater videos and pictures): Jérome Espla and Mikko Paillot
- Sebastien Boue: outside photographer
- France 3, a french TV channel with 2 journalists
- Diving center " Oser Plonger " represent by Rodolphe, in charge of the logistic
- The toursit center of Orcières, represent by Olivier.
No sooner have we arrived than we have started by a cross country skii session on saturday afternoon, in the middle of fis trees. The day ended by the
showing of my movie "Trip to -109m" following by a conference at the tourist center with a massive audience.
On sunday morning, we are finally moving to the lake Long (2500m) by skii for the expected dive! It will be the first time for Julie, Fouad and Chris. We are very excited. We get in the water
one by one. What an incredible view!
3 holes dug into the ice enable us to breathe and let the sunrays light up the bottom of the lake. Lights and colors are indescribable: it s a unique experience. We get out of the water after 45min, with hands and feets frozen but it's ok.
We didn't get really cold! We are leaving for an afternoon skii session with a big smile and a lot of beautiful pictures in our mind.
A huge thanks to Orcières for the warm welcome and to "Oser Plonger" for amazing sensations
