Hello everybody,

A new adventure just ended. The 7th team world championship was organised for the first time in Asia, in Okinawa-Japan, from the 30th to the 11th july, day of my 28th birthday !
Woman French team was composed  of Julie Gautier, Alice Modolo and Aurore Asso.
Men’s french team was composed of Christian Maldame, Morgan Bourc’His, Fred Sessa and me.
We all arrived 5 days to 1 week before the beginning of the competition to have time to adapt to jetlag and also have several training sessions in the ocean.
After the calm Mediteranean sea of Kalamata, what a change ! Current, wind, rain or waves, it was bad luck for Ryuzo Shinomya, the organiser, as the conditions could have been perfect as he expected.

garcons.jpgfilles.jpg
This year, we had maybe the best conditions ever to succeed in this competition : a sponsor Sony Ericsson, 2 coach, 1 captain, 1 physiologist and of course 8 athletes very strong, well prepared and motivated.
Unfortunatly, it seemed that french team was cursed for this event : Brigitte couldn’t join us because she injured herself, Cyril the coach had to cancel his trip at the last minute because of an emergency at work, I got tangled at 102m by an anchor roap in the constant weigth disipline, my nose clip broke  during the static, etc….
On the top of that, it was hard for Morgan, Fred and me to handle the nomination of Christian Maldame  as the alternate of the team, as it was obvious for us he was the strong leader of the team.

Anyway, no excuse. At the end of the competition, the Danish won the world champion title. Even without all our troubles, it would have been very very hard to dominate them.
Japanese team took the the 2nd place and like in 2008, Finland took the bronze medal.
For the woman, Japanese were very strong and took the gold medal. Finally the Russians are not world champions anymore !
The french girls are at the 5th place.

Fortunatly, this world championship ended with a french fireworks : a new dynamic WORLD RECORD by Fred Sessa with a 255m swim ! Congratulation to him !

crete105Welcome back on the blog !
From the 7th to the 20th of june was organised the 3rd Mediterranean World Cup in Greece.
This competition usually took place in Sougia –Crete, but this year, the organiser Stavros Kastrinakis moved it to the Peloponese, in Kalamata.
The first week of the event was dedicated to the training and the second week was the competition week. The winner is the one that collect the biggest amount of point in the 3 unassisted depth discipline :
-    CWT (constant weight with fin) : swimming down and up with the fins
-    CNF (constant no fins) : swimming down and up without any material
-    FIM (Free Immersion) : pulling down and up to the rope

In CWT, I did a fantastic dive at 114m but unfortunaty failed in a national record attempt the last day of the comp at 118m (early turn at 100m).
In CNF, I went to 70m
In FIM, I pulled down to 96m

I am very happy to win this competition, and especially with my CWT dives. On the 114m, I felt I had some air left in the tank. My early turn in the 118m was due to a technical mistake on the way down.

It was a good start before the main competition of the year : The team world championship in Okinawa – Japan, where french team will try to defend his world champion title !.
I will arrive in Okinawa the 24th of June, so I keep you informed very soon !

6 days of competition have already passed : As my feeling were not perfect in constant no fins in training, because this discipline requires to be in perfect shape as it’s the toughest one, and because the main foccus of the year are the team world championship in Okinawa (with constant weight discipline as the only depth category), I have decided to focus only in constant weight with fins category for this Vertical Blue 2010.
I did only 3 dives in the first 6 days, because I was a little bit sick in the middle :
- 103m : I have announced 105m but turned earlier because of bad feelings
- 106m : I went to the bottom, but couldn’t fin the tag (maybe because of nitrogen narcosis)
- 108m : white card, easy at the surface and with equalisation, but still a lot of narcosis.

Tomorrow starts the last set.
I have announced 112m for tomorrow, 1 meter less than my personal best achieved in july 2008, and that was a new world record !
During the first days of the competition, several world records have been broken.
In constant weight, Herbert Nitsch took it 1 meter deeper than his previous record, with a dive at 124m.
I constant weight no fins, William Trubridge, the warden of Deans Blue Hole, organiser of the competition, and the world specialist in CNF pushed his own world record a little deeper, with a fantastic dive at 92m.
In Free Immersion (pulling down and back to the roap), Herbert Nitsch broke the WR a fisrt time with a dive at 114m. William Trubridge took it at 116m. Yesterday, Herbert Nitsch made the dive at 118m but was disqualified because he lost the tag on the way back, but he was looking very strong. There is no doubt he will try again tomorrow !

I try to foccus on my dives only. I know I am not ready yet to catch up with the guys ahead during this competition. I am working now on my own feelings to be ready for the future !

It s been 17 days I have started my training in Long Island. I have tried to work mostly on the no fins (CNF) and on constant weight (CW). In constant, I have done 70, 80, 90, 95 and 100 meters so far. In CNF i have done 55m, 2 X 70m and 75m. I have done also some shallow training dives focusing on equalisation and technique.
The competition is starting tomorrow. There will be 3 sets of 3 competition days in a row, one day rest between the sets. It means I will have 9 potential performances. I think I am going to dive only 6 or 7 days as I will need some more rest.
Hopefully the conditions at Deans Blue Hole will be better than the 2 last days.
I have announced in CWT 105m for tomorrow as a starter. Here are the official announcements for tomorrow: 2 world record attempt in free immersion!
Stay tuned !

I arrived yesterday in Long Island, Bahamas.

One more time, I am going to explore the deepest Blue Hole in the world, Dean's Blue Hole.

Vertical Blue is an invitational competition organised by William Trubridge, world record holder in constant weight no fins (90m). Only 16 athletes will attend, but only big names! Herbert Nitsch, Will Trubridge, Martin Stepanek, Ryuzo Shinomya, William Winram, and some others...

I have no expectations for this competition as it's the beginning of the season. I just want to improve my no fins and reach my best level in constant weight with fins.

We are renting a wonderfull house in front of the ocean. I enjoy the house alone at the moment but Julie will arrive by the end of the week. Then Martin Stepanek and his girlfriend Niki Roderick from New Zeland (Silver medal in the last World Championship in constant no fins) are going to share the house with us.

I will put some news, pictures and maybe video clips every week, so stay tuned!

Dimanche 29 novembre 7 29 /11 /Nov 00:12
First heat today, in Constant Weigth No Fins.
I felt of course a little stressed, even if the announced performance of 73m was less than my maximum in training. The conditions were perfect today ! My dive was almost perfect too! Good glide, power in the arms, almost no urge to breathe...
The equalisation was a little hard because of the stress and the only 3 packing.
The good news is that Morgan and Christian did their dive too ! So we are all in final!

Let's dive with the monofin now!

Last dives before the beginning of the comp. I have improved my CWT depth (more than 102m...) and made a safe CNF at 76m to have some good feelings after the hard 80m.
We made the announcements for the first day of the competition tomorrow: qualifications in cosntant no fins.
Even if it's an individual competition, we decided to announce the same depth, to maximize our chance to go in the final all together. So it means that Christian, Morgan and me will try tomorrow to dive at 73m in constant weight no fins. If we succeed, we are all qualified for the final
Here is an extract of the rules: "The top 6 athletes will go through to the final.  If two or more athletes have an equal number of points in sixth position then the athlete who qualifies for the finals will be the one with the smallest difference between announced performance (AP) and realized performance (RP).  If there is still no difference then all athletes with equal points and equal AP-RP will go through to the finals.  The same system will be used to decide the medal positions in the finals."

Let's see what happen tomorrow!
Today we had one french girl qualified for the final in CNF !!! New French record with 47m!! CONGRATULATION TO BRIGITTE BANEGAS !!!

Here is the starting list of the CNF qualifications: STARTING LIST CNF

Stay tuned !!
